α. Πώλιττα, τλῆθι πένθος, εὔνασον δάκρυ.
πολλαὶ θανόντας εἶδον υἱεῖς μητέρες.

β. ἀλλ᾽ οὐ τοιούτους τὸν τρόπον καὶ τὸν βίον,
οὐ μητέρων σέβοντας ἡδίστην θέαν.

α. τί περισσὰ θρηνεῖς; τί δὲ μάτην ὀδύρεαι;
εἰς κοινὸν Ἅιδην πάντες ἥξουσι βροτοί.
