Texts

— Paton edition

The capture of his rod, pulled out of the sea by
the six- stranded hair line, was fatal to the fisherman
Menestratus ; then, when the red phycis, gaping at
the errant bait of the murderous hook, swallowed
greedily the sharp fraud, as he was cracking its skull
with its teeth, it slew him, taking a violent leap and
slipping down his throat.
