οὐρανὸς ἄστρα τάχιον ἀποσβέσει, ἢ τάχα νυκτὸς
ἠέλιος φαιδρὴν ὄψιν ἀπεργάσεται,
καὶ γλυκὺ νᾶμα θάλασσα βροτοῖς ἀρυτήσιμον ἕξει,
καὶ νέκυς εἰς ζωῶν χῶρον ἀναδράμεται,

ἤ ποτε Μαιονίδαο βαθυκλεὲς οὔνομ᾽ Ὁμήρου
λήθη γηραλέων ἁρπάσεται σελίδων.
