εὐχομένη βοόωσα παρ᾽ ἁγνοτάτῃσι τραπέζαις
Νόννα λύθη, φωνὴ δ᾽ ἐδέθη καὶ χείλεα καλὰ
γηραλέης. τί τὸ θαῦμα; θεὸς θέλεν ὑμνήτειραν
γλῶσσαν ἐπ᾽ εὐφήμοισι λόγοις κληῖδα βαλέσθαι:καὶ νῦν οὐρανόθεν μέγ᾽ ἐπεύχεται ἡμερίοισιν.

Nonna a été délivrée, mais qu'ont été enchaînées la voix et
les belles lèvres de sa vieillesse. Qu'y a-t-il là d'étonnant?
Dieu a voulu que la bouche qui chantait ses hymnes se
fermât sur les paroles qui le glorifiaient; et maintenant du
haut du ciel elle fait de grandes prières pour nous, créatures
d'un jour.

Why marvel thereat ? God willed to put the lock
on her hymning tongue as it was in the act of
uttering words of happy omen, and now from heaven
she prays aloud for mortals.
