α. Τύμβε, τίς ἢ πόθεν, ἦν δ᾽ ἔτι παῖς τίνος, ἔργα καὶ ὄλβον,
νεκρός, ὃν ἔνδον ἔχεις, ἔννεπε, κευθόμενον.β. οὗτος Ἰωάννης, Κύπριος γένος, υἱὸς ἐτύχθη
εὐγενέος Στεφάνου: ἦν δὲ νομεὺς Φαρίης.κτήμασι μὲν πολύολβος ὅλων πλέον ὧν τρέφε Κύπρος,
ἐκ πατέρος πατέρων, ἐξ ὁσίων τε πόνων
ἔργα δὲ θέσκελα πάντα λέγειν, ἅπερ ἐν χθονὶ τεῦξεν,
οὐδ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐστι νόου, οὐδ᾽ ἑτέρων στομάτων
πάντα γὰρ ἄνδρα παρῆλθε φαεινοτάταις ἀρετῇσιδόξαντα κρατέειν ταῖς ἀρεταῖς ἑτέρων.

"This man was Joannes of Cyprus, the son of noble Stephanus, and he was the pastor of Alexandria. He was wealthiest of all the Cyprians by inheritance and by his holy labours ; and to tell all the divine deeds he did on earth is beyond my understanding or the tongue of others ; for he surpassed in most brilliant virtues even men who seemed to surpass others. All the beautiful public works which this city possesses are ornaments due to his most praiseworthy munificence.

- C'était Jean, originaire de Chypre, fils du noble Stéphanos. Il fut pasteur de la ville de Pharos. Des richesses il en eut en grande abondance, plus que tous les enfants de Chypre, du fait de ses ancêtres et de ses saints labeurs. Quant à dire toutes les œuvres merveilleuses qu'il accomplit sur la terre, ce n'est possible ni à mon esprit ni aux lèvres des autres humains. En effet il a surpassé par ses vertus si éclatantes tous les hommes qui semblaient supérieurs aux autres par leurs vertus. De lui aussi, tous les ornements échus à cette ville manifestent glorieusement la rare bienveillance."
