εἴ με νέκυν κατέθαπτες ἰδὼν οἰκτίρμονι θυμῷ,
εἶχες ἂν ἐκ μακάρων μισθὸν ἐπ᾽ εὐσεβίῃ:
νῦν δ᾽ ὅτε δὴ τύμβῳ με κατακρύπτεις ὁ φονεύσας,
τῶν αὐτῶν μετέχοις ὧνπερ ἐμοὶ παρέχεις.

If you had found me dead and buried me out of pity, the gods would have rewarded you for your piety. But now that you who slew me hide me in a tomb, may you meet with the same treatment that I met with at your hands.

Tout au long du livre sept, on retrouve plusieurs de ce type d'épigrammes (310, 356-360, 516, 580-581). La sépulture donné au mort par son meurtrier apparaissait comme la parodie sacrilège d'un pieux devoir
