ἅδ᾽ ἐγὼ ἁ τλάμων Ἀρετὰ παρὰ τῷδε κάθημαι
Αἴαντος τύμβῳ κειραμένα πλοκάμους,
θυμὸν ἄχει μεγάλῳ βεβολημένα, εἰ παρ᾽ Ἀχαιοῖς
ἁ δολόφρων Ἀπάτα κρέσσον ἐμεῦ δύναται.

Here sit I, miserable Virtue, by this tomb of Ajax,
with shorn hair, smitten with heavy sorrow that
cunning Fraud has more power with the Greeks
than I.
