ἡ λίθος ἔστ᾽ ἀμέθυστος, ἐγὼ δ᾽ ὁ πότης Διόνυσος:
ἢ νήφειν πείσῃ μ᾽, ἢ μαθέτω μεθύειν.

The stone is amethyst,¹ but I am the toper
Dionysus. Either let it teach me to be sober, or
learn itself to get drunk.
