λωτὸν ἐρεπτομένους προτέρων οὐ ψεύσατο μῦθος:
πίστιν ἀληθείης τοῦτο τὸ λουτρὸν ἔχει.
εἰ γὰρ ἅπαξ καθαροῖσι λοέσσεται ὕδασιν ἀνήρ,
οὐ ποθέει πάτρην, οὐκ ἐθέλει γενέτας.

The old story of the lotus-eaters¹ is no falsehood.
This bath confirms its truth. For if a man once
bathe in these pure waters he does not regret his
country or desire his parents.
