Ἄσκρη μὲν πατρὶς πολυλήιος, ἀλλὰ θανόντος
ὀστέα πληξίππων γῆ Μινυῶν κατέχει
Ἡσιόδου, τοῦ πλεῖστον ἐν ἀνθρώποις κλέος ἐστὶν
ἀνδρῶν κρινομένων ἐν βασάνῳ σοφίης.

cavalleggeri, in sé Esiodo morto
l'ossa racchiude. Di lui tra gli uomini immensa la gloria,
ove l'umano vaglio è la sapienza.
