ἥδ᾽ ἐγὼ ἡ τοσάκις Νιόβη λίθος, ὁσσάκι μήτηρ:
δύσμορος ἣ μαστῶν [θερμὸν] ἔπηξα γάλα:
Ἀίδεω πολὺς ὄλβος ἐμῆς ὠδῖνος ἀριθμός,
ᾧ τέκον. ὦ μεγάλης λείψανα πυρκαϊῆς.

Here am I, Niobe, as many times a stone (sic) as I was a mother; so unhappy was I that the milk in my brest grew hard. Great wealth for Hades was the number of my children-- to Hades for whom I brought them forth. Oh relics of that great pyre!
