ἥλιον, οὐκ ἔγνων σχέτλιε, ποῦ γέγονας;
οὑμὸς ἔχει, χαλεπῇ δ᾽ ἤντεο θευμορίῃ;

— Paton edition

Thessalian Cleonicus, poor wretch, poor wretch! By the piercing sun I did not know you, man. Where have you been ? You are nothing but hair and bone. Can it be that my evil spirit besets you, and you have met with a cruel stroke from heaven ? I see it ; Euxitheus lias run away with you. Yes, when you came here, you rascal, you were looking at the beauty with both eyes.
