Ἀρκαδικὸν πῖλον κατ᾽ ἐνύπνιον Ἀρκάδι δῶρον

Ἑρμείῃ ῥήτωρ θῆκεν Ἀθηναγόρας.

εἰ μὲν καὶ ῥήτωρ κατ᾽ ἐνύπνιον, οἴσομεν Ἑρμῇ:
εἰ δ᾽ ὕπαρ, ἀρκείτω: θῆκεν Ἀθηναγόρας.

“The rhetor Athenagoras in consequence of a
dream dedicated an Arcadian hat to Arcadian
Hermes.” If he is a rhetor, too, in a dream only, we
will take it so inscribed to Hermes, but if he is a
real one, let “Athenagoras dedicated this” suffice.
