On a Temple of Fortune

τόνδε Τύχης ἀνέγειρε δόμον Δημήτριος ἀρχὸς,
τὴν πόλιν οἰκτείρας, ὡς πάις Ἱερίου:
αὐτοῦ καὶ βουλῇ τάδ᾽ ἐδείματο, οὔτε πόληος
οὔτε τι δημοτέροις χρήμασιν, ἀλλ᾽ ἰδίοις.

Demetrius the governor erected this temple of
Fortune, feeling compassion for the city, like the
son of Hierius he was. He built it on his own
initiative, not the city's, and at his own, not at the
public expense.
