οὗτος Ἰουλιανὸς λαοσσόα τείχεα πήξας,
στῆσε τρόπαιον, ἑῆς σύμβολον ἀγρυπνίης,
σφάζειν ἀντιβίους ἐχθροὺς ἀπάνευθε μενοινῶν,
ἢ πόλεως προπάροιθ᾽ ἐκκροτέειν πολέμους,

This Julian¹ who built the walls that protect the
city erected the trophy in memory of his vigilance.
He studied rather to slay his enemies at a distance
than to stir up war before the city.
