On a Group of Ares and Aphrodite

Texts

— Paton edition

The painter in the interior of the house painted
Ares and Aphrodite embracing each other. The
bright Sun, coming in through the window, stood in
astonishment as he gazed on them both. Till when
shall the heavy wrath of the Sun endure ? He
would not banish his anger though it fell only on
lifeless wax.¹
