Θειογένης Πείσωνι τὰ τεχνήεντα κύπελλα
πέμπει: χωροῦμεν δ᾽ οὐρανὸν ἀμφότερα:

δοιὰ γὰρ ἐκ σφαίρης τετμήμεθα, καὶ τὸ μὲν ἡμῶν
τοὺς νοτίους, τὸ δ᾽ ἔχει τείρεα τἀν Βορέῃ.

ἀλλὰ σὺ μηκέτ᾽ Ἄρητον ἐπίβλεπε: δισσὰ γὰρ ἀμφοῖν
μέτρα πιὼν ἀθρεῖς πάντα τὰ φαινόμενα.

Theogenes sends to Piso¹ the skilfully wrought
bowls, and both of us together contain the heavens.
We are both carved out of a sphere,² and one of us
contains the southern constellations, the other the
northern. No longer consult Aratus, for if you empty
us both you see all the Phaenomena.
