φασὶ παροιμιακῶς: κἂν ὗς δάκοι ἄνδρα πονηρὸν
ἀλλὰτόδ᾽ οὐχ οὕτω φημὶ προσῆκε λέγειν
ἀλλὰ
δάκοι κἂν ὗς ἀγαθοὺς καὶ ἀπράγμονας ἄνδρας,

τὸν δὲ κακὸν δεδιὼς δήξεται οὐδὲ δράκων.

The proverb says, " Even a pig would bite a bad
man ; " but I say that we should not say that, but
" Even a pig would bite simple unmeddlesome men,
but even a snake would be afraid to bite a bad man."
