πολλοὶ πολλὰ λέγουσιν, ὅμως δ᾽ οὐ πάντα δύνανται
ῥήμασιν ἐξειπεῖν ῥεύματα σῶν παθέων:
ἓν δ᾽ ἐπὶ σοῦ παράδοξον ἐθαυμάσαμεν καὶ ἄπιστον,
δάκρυα πῶς κλέπτων εἶχες ἑτοιμότατα.

Χαλκίδος ἐκ γαίης ἀπεχάλκισε τὴν πόλιν ἡμῶν,
κλέπτων, καὶ κλέπτων δάκρυσι κερδαλέοις,
