"text": "Thero, the son of Menippus, in his youth wasted\r\nhis inheritance shamefully on prodigal outlay ; but\r\nEuctemon, his father's friend, when he saw that he\r\nwas already pressed by parching poverty, strove with\r\ntears to cheer him, and gave him his daughter to\r\nwife with a large dowry. But when wealth got\r\nthe better of Thero's wits, he began to live again in\r\nthe same extravagance, satisfying disgracefully every\r\nlust of his vile belly and the parts beneath it. Thus\r\nthe returning wave of baneful poverty buried Thero\r\nthe second time, and Euctemon wept a second time,\r\nnot for Thero, but for his daughter's dowry and\r\nbed, and learnt that a man who has made ill use\r\nof his own substance will not make honest use\r\nof another's.",
