"text": "Argument analytique des Centons d'Homère. \n\nVoici ce livre du pieux Patricius, qui a mené à bien une grande œuvre en composant avec les poèmes d'Homère un chant précieux, formé de vers illustres, qui célèbre les actes du Dieu invincible : comment il est venu dans la société des hommes ; comment il prit une forme humaine et se cacha dans le sein d'une vierge immaculée, en se faisant tout petit, lui qu'un cercle infini n'avait pu jusque-là contenir ; puis, comment il suça la mamelle de la vierge qui avait conçu un dieu, source d'où jaillissaient les flots d'un lait virginal ; comment Hérode mit à mort des enfants encore en bas âge : l'insensé, qui cherchait à faire périr un dieu immortel ; comment Jean le baptisa dans les eaux du fleuve ; comment il prit pour compagnons douze hommes irréprochables ; à combien d'infirmes le dieu rendit l'usage de tous leurs membres, en chassant leurs odieuses maladies ou la cécité de leurs yeux ; puis, comment il arrèta les flots de sang que perdait une femme gémissante, dès qu'elle eut touché ses vêtements ; combien de gens domptés par un destin rigoureux il ramena au jour du fond des abîmes souterrains ; comment il nous a laissé des souvenirs de sa sainte passion ; comment il fut, par des mains de mortels, étendu dans des liens cruels, - de son plein gré, car nul parmi les habitants de la terre ne pourrait lutter contre un dieu tout-puissant, si lui-même ne le voulait ainsi ; comment il mourut ; comment il brisa les portes de fer de Hadès et comment, par les ordres augustes de son père, il ramena des enfers au ciel les âmes des hommes pieux, étant ressuscité à la troisième aurore qui éclaira les mortels, lui, le rejeton qu'engendra au commencement des temps le Dieu qui n'avait pas eu de commencement.
