εὐδαίμων ὅτι τἆλλα μανεὶς ὡρχαῖος Ὀρέστας,
Λεύκαρε, τὰν ἁμὰν οὐκ ἐμάνη μανίην,
οὐδ᾽ ἔλαβ᾽ ἐξέτασιν τῶ Φωκέος, ἅτις ἐλέγχει
τὸν φίλον, ἀλλ᾽ αἰ χἢν δρᾶμ᾽ ἐδίδαξε μόνον.
ἦ τάχα κα τὸν ἑταῖρον ἀπώλεσε τοῦτο ποήσας:
κἀγὼ τοὺς πολλοὺς οὐκέτ᾽ ἔχω Πυλάδας.

Orestes of old, Leucarus, was happy in this, that,
mad in other matters, he was not mad with my mad-
ness, nor did he have to apply the test to the Phoeian,
which is the trial of a friend, but taught him a part
in one drama only. Perchance had he done this he
would have lost his companion, and, as a fact, I no
longer have most of my Pyladeses.
