εἶπεν ὁ δ᾽ εἰς ἑτέρην ἐσπούδασεν. ἀλλὰ Φίλιννα
Διογένην λήθης τίσατο καὶ φθιμένη:νυκτὶ γὰρ ἐν πρώτῃ θάλαμον σχάσε μῆνις ἄφυκτος,

into the loving bond of wedlock." She spoke, but
he hastened to take another wife. Yet Philinna,
even dead, punished Diogenes for forgetting her.
For on the first night the wrath from which there is
no escape laid their chamber in ruins, so that the sun
never shone on his second marriage.
"Par nos enfants", dit-elle, "je t'en conjure, si c'est toi qui ensevelis ma dépouille, ne consacre pas le philtre d'un second hymen". Elle dit ; lui s'empressa d'en épouser une autre. Mais Philinna punit Diogénès de son oubli, bien que morte. La première nuit en effet, son ressentiment inéluctable fendit en deux la chambre nuptiale, de façon que la couche des époux ne vit pas un second soleil.
