Αἰσχύλον ἥδε λέγει ταφίη λίθος ἐνθάδε κεῖσθαι
τὸν μέγαν, οἰκείης τῆλ᾽ ἀπὸ Κεκροπίης,
λευκὰ Γέλα Σικελοῖο παρ᾽ ὕδατα: τίς φθόνος, αἰαῖ,
Θησείδας ἀγαθῶν ἔγκοτος αἰὲν ἔχει;

dalla patria cecròpide lontano,
dove il siculo Gela biancheggia. Che invida furia
eccita contro i grandi gli Ateniesi?

This tombstone says that Aeschylus the great lies
here , far from his own Attica , by the white waters
of Sicilian Gelas . What spiteful grudge against the
good is this , alas , that ever besets the sons of
Theseus ?
