φειδωλός τις ἀνὴρ ἁφόων θησαυρὸν ὀνείρῳ,
ἤθελ᾽ ἀποθνῄσκειν, πλούσιον ὕπνον ἔχων:
ὡς δ᾽ ἴδε τὴν προτέρην, σκιόεν μετὰ κέρδος ὀνείρου,
ἐξ ὕπνου πενίην, ἀντικάθευδε πάλιν.

Un gagne-petit, dans son rêve, maniait des trésors; il voulait mourir, plongé dans ce sommeil doré. Mais, lorsqu'il vit à son réveil que son grain s'était évanoui avec son rêve, qu'il était pauvre comme avant, il se rendormit!

A parsimonious man , laying hands on a treasure in a dream , wished to die enjoying a rich sleep . But when after the shadowy gain of the dream he awoke and saw his poverty as it was , he went to sleep again .
