δακρύει Φείδων ὁ φιλάργυρος, οὐχ ὅτι θνῄσκει,
ἀλλ᾽ ὅτι πέντε μνῶν τὴν σορὸν ἐπρίατο.
τοῦτ᾽ αὐτῷ χαρίσασθε, καί, ὡς τόπος ἐστὶν ἐν αὐτῇ,
τῶν πολλῶν τεκνίων ἕν τι προσεμβάλετε.

Pheidon l'avare se lamente, non de ce qu'il se meurt, mais pour avoir payé cinq mines son cercueil. Faites-lui donc ce plaisir: puisqu'il y a de la place là-dedans, fourrez-y aussi l'un de ses nombreux enfants!
